From political conflict to reconstruction - the next governments focus is on the economyInformation/Report…
While political analysts held their breath awaiting a “break” in the unified stance of the Coordination Framework forces regarding the parliamentary speakership, the “largest bloc” demonstrated a remarkable ability to maneuver and overcome constitutional obstacles with great flexibility, thus turning the page on the “technical deadlock” and propelling the political process toward a new phase of stability.
This breakthrough was not merely a compromise over a political position, but rather a “declaration of transition” from the narrow confines of conflicts over sectarian entitlements to the realm of a “service and economic program” that represents the true essence of the next phase.
Information emerging from behind the scenes of the Framework’s leaders’ meetings indicates that the top priority has now shifted from “organizing the legislative body” to activating the engines of comprehensive economic reform, in an effort to translate political stability into tangible achievements that impact citizens’ lives. This radical shift in focus reflects a profound understanding among the Framework’s forces that the sustainability of the political system is not measured by the number of positions secured, but rather by the success of the “reconstruction revolution,” addressing the challenges of unemployment, currency volatility, and diversifying national income sources away from the state’s dependence on fluctuating oil prices.
Regarding the selection of economist Ali al-Zaidi as the economic choice to manage the current phase, the blocs within the framework immediately affirmed their full support for him upon his announcement as prime minister. The State of Law Coalition, led by Nouri al-Maliki, confirmed on Tuesday its support for the Coordination Framework’s nomination of Ali al-Zaidi for the premiership, emphasizing that the coalition would be at the forefront of those participating in and supporting the new cabinet.
Coalition leader Imran Karkoush told Al-Maalomah news agency, “The leader of the State of Law Coalition fully supports the Coordination Framework’s decision to nominate Ali al-Zaidi for prime minister,” explaining that “this choice aligns with the vision of unifying the ranks within the Shiite political establishment.”
He added, “The State of Law Coalition will be among the first to support al-Zidi, and we will participate actively and directly in his upcoming government.” He pointed out that “the goal of this participation is to combine efforts to confront the significant challenges facing the country on various security, economic, and social levels.” He noted that “the current stage requires a strong, politically supported government to fulfill the aspirations of the citizens and resolve outstanding issues.”
The Reconstruction and Development Coalition, the largest bloc within the framework, also announced its full support for the Coordination Framework’s candidate, Ali al-Zidi, for the position of Prime Minister, confirming its active participation in the upcoming cabinet.
The bloc’s spokesperson, Firas al-Muslawi, told Al-Maalomah, “The Reconstruction and Development Coalition, as the largest bloc within the Coordination Framework, has decided to fully support al-Zidi for the next phase.” He explained that “the bloc will work effectively at both the parliamentary and governmental levels to complete its development project.”
Al-Muslawi added that “the next government is likely to be formed within the specified constitutional timeframe,” noting that “this comes as a result of the broad support Al-Zaydi received from various political forces and blocs.” He pointed out that “the next phase requires political cooperation to ensure the implementation of service programs that directly impact citizens’ lives.”
