Jassim Mohammed Jaafar, a leader in the State of Law Coalition, confirmed on Monday that meetings of the leaders of the Coordination Framework will continue this week, aiming to reach a final decision on the nomination of a candidate for the position of Prime Minister. He stressed that this matter will be resolved and closed this week.
Jaafar told the Information Agency that “the discussions within the Coordination Framework have led to general agreements that will result in the selection of a single candidate for the position, or exploring alternative options to break the deadlock.”
He added that “there is a proposal to adopt a new mechanism if the competition narrows down to two names, based on obtaining the highest number of votes within the framework, as an alternative to the complex two-thirds mechanism.” He indicated that “the coming days will be crucial in overcoming the technical and political disagreements regarding the identity of the next candidate.”
