Bloomberg News reported on Thursday evening that Iran had stopped loading any crude oil onto oil tankers during September, which it considered an indication of the impact of the US naval blockade on Tehran’s ability to access energy markets.
Crude oil shipments have fallen to zero, compared with about 250,000 barrels per day in August, according to preliminary estimates from oil tanker tracking compiled by Bloomberg.
This is the first time Iran has stopped loading crude oil onto tankers since the war began on February 28, 2026.
Kpler and Vortexa, companies specializing in providing data to track oil shipments, also recorded zero Iranian crude oil shipments last month.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Thursday morning that it had redirected 125 commercial vessels since the resumption of the US blockade on Iranian ports in mid-July.
It is worth noting that Tehran had restricted passage through the strategic waterway following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, while US forces imposed a naval blockade targeting ships heading to or departing from Iranian ports.
