The General Company for the Manufacture of Medicines and Medical Supplies in Samarra announced on Monday the production of the antibiotic Moxifloxacin for the first time among its pharmaceutical products.
The company’s general manager, chemical engineer Mohammed Abdul Qader Al-Nuaimi, said in a statement: “The product is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections in adults, including pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute sinusitis, as well as skin and soft tissue infections.”
Al-Nuaimi stressed that the production of the product represents an important step in enhancing the company’s ability to provide modern medicines of high quality, which contributes to meeting the needs of the Ministry of Health and the local market, reducing dependence on imported medicines, enhancing drug security, and consolidating the position of the national pharmaceutical industry.
He pointed out that the production of moxifloxacin comes within the company’s ongoing efforts to develop its production lines and add modern pharmaceutical preparations, in line with the state’s directions towards localizing the pharmaceutical industry and enhancing local production.
