Parliamentary demands are renewed to proceed with the proposed salary scale law, in light of the repercussions of the change in the dollar exchange rate, and the effects it may have on employees with limited income.
The head of the parliamentary finance committee, MP Uday Awad, said in a statement to the official newspaper that “the proposed salary scale law will be presented soon in the sessions of the House of Representatives, after it was prepared by the (Sadiqun) bloc following its study with specialists in financial and economic affairs.”
He added that “the proposal was submitted to the Federal Court to ensure that it would not be challenged,” expecting that “it will be put forward for its first reading in the upcoming sessions.”
Awad explained that “the Finance Committee is ready to listen to comments on the law after reading it, and to adopt what it deems fair and consistent with the legal frameworks,” noting that “the proposal aims to enhance purchasing power and support the stability of state employees’ salaries, and includes the cancellation of instructions that conflict with its provisions.”
For his part, MP Abdul Hamza Munim Al-Khafaji said in a statement to the official newspaper, which was followed by Al-Sumaria News, that “the demand to amend the salary scale comes within the oversight and legislative roles of the House of Representatives,” stressing “the importance of the law for the segment of employees with limited income, especially in light of the economic crises and the rise in prices of goods and services.”
He added that “employees in several job grades, from the tenth to the fifth, receive limited salaries ranging between 250,000 and 300,000 dinars,” noting that “there are employees with these salaries in more than seven ministries.”
He warned that “the continuation of these conditions, coupled with the rising cost of living, exacerbates the burdens on this segment, in addition to the significant disparity in the salaries of employees holding similar job grades.”
Al-Khafaji called for “proceeding with the enactment of the law and addressing the legal articles that are said to conflict with it, instead of using this conflict as an excuse to obstruct it,” stressing “the need to take measures that lead to reducing disparities and achieving justice among state employees.”
He explained that “the Prime Minister was contacted regarding the possibility of sending the draft Civil Service and Salaries Law or the proposed salary scale, in addition to requesting a statement of the procedures taken by the Prime Minister’s office and the House of Representatives regarding this file.”
