Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman affirmed on Thursday that the Kingdom will always stand with Iraq to “support its security, stability, development and prosperity,” for the benefit of Iraq and its people.
Bin Salman said in a statement carried by Shafaq News Agency: “I met with the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari, and we reviewed Saudi-Iraqi relations in the military and defense field, and discussed regional developments.”
Bin Salman continued: “During the meeting, we emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation between our two countries in a way that serves our common interests and achieves the security and stability of the region.”
Bin Salman added that Iraq will remain a dear neighbor to us, and we are bound to its government and brotherly people by ties of brotherhood, solidarity and mutual support.
On Thursday morning, an Iraqi security delegation arrived in the capital, Riyadh, headed by the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, the Head of the Intelligence Service, Hamid Al-Shatri, the Commander of the Air Defense, Lieutenant General Muhannad Al-Asadi, and the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant General Zaid Hawshi.
It is noted that a government source reported yesterday, Wednesday, that a high-level Iraqi security delegation will head to Saudi Arabia to discuss the recent drone attacks that targeted the Kingdom.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced at the end of last month that it had intercepted and destroyed a number of drones that it said had been launched from Iraqi territory and had attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh.
Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi received last Friday the head of the General Intelligence Directorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Khalid bin Ali al-Humaidan, and his accompanying delegation, who conveyed a message from the Kingdom’s leadership renewing the invitation for al-Zaidi to visit Riyadh.
