Falih Sari, the candidate of the “Wisdom” coalition for the position of Minister of Finance, said on Thursday that the Ministry of Finance will be “the first sovereign ministry in Iraq,” stressing that it will become a pivotal economic institution in managing and developing the national economy.
Sari added, in a video statement published on social media and seen by Shafaq News Agency, coinciding with the anticipated vote on the cabinet of Prime Minister-designate Ali al-Zidi, that the rights of employees, contractors and farmers are “guaranteed”, and that the ministry will work to secure their entitlements.
He stressed that the Ministry of Finance will not be a “salary distribution office,” but rather a sovereign economic ministry that contributes to the growth of the Iraqi economy, emphasizing the rejection of any separation between ministries and finance, and the necessity of linking them to it within a unified work system.
He explained that the ministry will rely on digital transformation and automation in its work during the next phase, to become a ministry “for all Iraqis in all governorates”.
He indicated his intention to form a special working group to receive requests and solve problems, and to open the door to communication with citizens through the representatives, calling on the House of Representatives and the Parliamentary Finance Committee to support reforms and legislative amendments to address the current financial challenges.
The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to vote on the cabinet of the prime minister-designate on Thursday evening.
