A security source in Erbil reported on Thursday hearing loud explosions inside the US consulate building in the province, after two Iranian missiles penetrated the air defense system and landed inside the building.
The source told the Information Agency that “the explosions occurred inside the US consulate building in Erbil after the two missiles managed to bypass the US air defenses and fortifications, resulting in plumes of smoke rising from the site, amid initial reports of injuries to several consulate guards.” The source
added that “the two missiles exploded inside the building, causing powerful blasts, but accurate information regarding the extent of casualties or damage is not yet available due to the tight security measures imposed by US forces around the targeted location.”
The source indicated that “US air defenses were unable to intercept the two missiles,” noting that “US forces have imposed unprecedented security measures around the consulate in anticipation of further missile attacks that may target sensitive locations within the diplomatic compound.”
