Exclusive: Al-Zaidi to visit Saudi Arabia next week “after mediation”

An informed source revealed on Monday that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi will visit Saudi Arabia next week.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that “the past few days have witnessed contacts by international, regional and internal political parties, in order to ease tensions between Baghdad and Riyadh, and those parties have succeeded in doing so.”
He added that “following the mediations, it was decided that Al-Zaidi’s postponed visit to Saudi Arabia will take place next week, during which security, economic and investment issues will be agreed upon.”
He indicated that “Saudi Arabia promised that it would provide al-Zaidi, during his visit to Riyadh next week, with evidence confirming that attacks against it were launched from within Iraqi territory.”
Two days ago, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, stressed the need to prevent any transgression or threat emanating from Iraqi territory towards neighboring countries, announcing the formation of a joint security committee to confront the challenges, while directing the development of deterrent mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of such cases or any potential violations.
Early Wednesday, CENTCOM announced that US and Saudi fighter jets had carried out precision strikes on weapons and logistics supply sites in several areas of eastern Iraq, which it said belonged to Iranian-backed factions responsible for those attacks.
As a result of those strikes, al-Zaidi cancelled his visit to Saudi Arabia, which had been scheduled for last Thursday, the day after the strikes.
