On Sunday, Iraqi parliament member Mohammed Abu Al-Eis revealed that a meeting of the Coordination Framework forces is expected in the coming days to discuss completing the formation of the cabinet.
Abu Al-Eis told Shafaq News Agency that the framework forces have not set a specific date for completing the cabinet, and everything mentioned in this regard is speculation and not true.
Abu Al-Eis explained that “the political blocs submitted the names of the candidates for the ministerial cabinet, despite the existence of some obstacles regarding the candidates for the Ministries of Interior and Defense.”
A source within the coordination framework revealed to Shafaq News Agency in the middle of this month that meetings between leaders have intensified to complete the government cabinet and select moderate candidates who are acceptable to the political parties.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that “the meetings between Shiite leaders are focusing on the mechanism for selecting candidates to fill the vacant ministerial portfolios, most importantly the Ministries of Defense and Interior.”
On May 14, 2026, the Iraqi parliament granted confidence to the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and its ministerial program, and voted on 14 ministers out of 23, while nine portfolios remained postponed due to disagreements over names and quotas, including the Interior, Defense, Higher Education and Planning ministries.
