A technical source in Kirkuk reported on Sunday that a new electrical transformer had arrived at the Dibis station northwest of the province to replace a secondary transformer that burned out two days ago, causing power outages in a number of vital facilities, as preparations began to gradually restore electricity supply.
The source told Shafaq News Agency that “the maintenance and engineering teams immediately began taking the technical measures to install the transformer upon its arrival, and work is proceeding at an accelerated pace to restore the system to its normal state.”
He added that “the burning of the secondary transformer led to a partial shutdown in the supply of power to important sites, especially those related to the energy and water sectors, which necessitated urgent intervention to secure an alternative.”
He explained that “the plan to restore power includes strategic locations, most notably the old Kobri area, North Gas facilities (A), Mama station, Bai Hassan field, in addition to the water injection station (B) and the military water project.”
He noted that “the technical teams will begin installing the transformer and connecting it to the network, followed by conducting operational tests to ensure efficient performance, before gradually restoring power to the affected areas.”
He stressed that “efforts are focused on reducing the duration of the outage, given that some of the affected sites are linked to oil production and water supply,” noting that “the relevant authorities are monitoring the maintenance work on the ground with directives to expedite completion and prevent the recurrence of malfunctions.”
He explained that the transformer was supplied by the Turkish company ASTOR, which specializes in manufacturing transformers and power transmission and distribution equipment, and whose products are used in several energy projects in the region, including Iraq.
