French President Emmanuel Macron called on Monday for the creation of alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz for oil exports, during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.

Macron said, according to a statement carried by the official Iraqi News Agency: Working for the stability of the region means defending the interests of the French people.

He also added that securing our energy supplies by working to de-escalate tensions and developing alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz will ease pressure on fuel prices.

He added that developing our cooperation in the field of defense and security with our partners means continuing the relentless fight against terrorism together.

A short while ago, Al-Zaidi’s media office announced that an official reception ceremony would be held for him at the French Armed Forces Museum (Les Invalides) in the French capital, Paris.

Al-Zaidi was received by French Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin, in the presence of French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, where the Iraqi and French national anthems were played, and the guard of honor was inspected, according to the statement.
