Diyala Provincial Council calls for accelerating investment in solar energy and facilitating the entry of companiesThe Diyala Provincial Council revealed on Friday details of an official request to expedite investment in renewable energy and provide greater flexibility and streamlining for companies and investors operating in this sector.
Council Chairman Omar al-Karawi explained to Al-Maalomah that “Diyala and other provinces are suffering from an electricity crisis,” noting that “what currently reaches the province through the national grid does not exceed 30% of the actual need.”
He added that “the drop in temperatures and the arrival of autumn have not contributed to raising supply levels, which remain extremely low, placing a heavy financial burden on residents, especially through reliance on private generators.”
He indicated that “the council has submitted an official request regarding investment in alternative energy, particularly solar energy, with the aim of resolving many outstanding issues and facilitating greater flexibility and streamlining for investment in this sector.”
He pointed out that “the request includes seeking to reduce the prices of solar energy systems to make them accessible to a wider segment of citizens, thus easing pressure on the national grid, as well as accelerating the inclusion of government departments and buildings in solar energy projects as an alternative solution.”
He explained that “relying on solar energy in government departments and buildings would alleviate the load on the national grid, especially during peak hours.”
Al-Karawi confirmed that “there has been a positive response from the government to what we have proposed, with the provision of numerous facilitations and an expressed interest in the investment file in alternative energy.”
