The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Saturday that total Iranian gas supplies to Iraq increased during the past week from 6 to 18 million cubic meters.
Electricity Ministry spokesman Ahmed Moussa told Reuters that “total Iranian gas supplies to Iraq increased from 6 million cubic meters to 18 million during the past week . ”
The spokesman explained that “the additional quantities of gas were allocated to meet the needs of the southern regions of the country.”
At the beginning of this month, most of Iraq’s provinces experienced a complete blackout of electricity, in an event described as a “shutdown” due to heavy loads.
The Ministry of Electricity explained at the time that the power outage was merely a technical incident due to the sudden decrease in gas supplies to the Rumaila gas power plant in Basra Governorate.
