Previous statements from most political parties indicated that the cabinet would be finalized after Eid al-Adha. However, this has not yet happened, despite 20 days having passed since the end of the holiday and the return of pilgrims to the country. This confirms the existence of internal disagreements that have not been openly discussed in the media. Nevertheless, statements from some parties suggest that there are no divisions among the political blocs, despite external interference and internal disputes that may be overcome in order to proceed with nominating candidates for the remaining ministerial portfolios in al-Zaidi’s cabinet and voting on them in a parliamentary session that may be held in an emergency session.
Former MP Abdul Hadi al-Saadawi told Al-Maalouma, “The occurrence of divisions among the political blocs regarding the cabinet and the remaining portfolios in al-Zaidi’s cabinet is unlikely, but there are disagreements within the political blocs regarding the selection of their candidates for ministerial positions.”
He added, “These internal disagreements are one of the reasons that led to the postponement of finalizing the cabinet and the failure to proceed with some of the names nominated for ministerial positions in al-Zaidi’s government.”
He explained that “the issue of selecting candidates for ministerial portfolios is a pressing matter that can be addressed, but it requires agreement and understanding among the political blocs in order to proceed with the cabinet and vote on the remaining undecided ministries in the new government.”
For his part, Abdul Rahman al-Jazaeri, head of the political body of the National Tribal Movement, confirmed to Al-Maalouma that “the alliance between the State of Law Coalition, the Azm Coalition, and the Democratic Party does not need any formal announcement, as it already exists and does not require written documentation. It is a spiritual alliance that has become a single entity, moving forward under prominent leaders seeking stability.”
He pointed out that “the leaders of the aforementioned parties made concessions to ensure stability, establish alliances, and move the political process forward without complications.”
He indicated that “the issue of forming the cabinet among the various political blocs and parties was preceded by discussions that emphasized professionalism and experience over quotas when nominating candidates for the cabinet and voting on them in parliament.”
In a related development, Ali al-Zaydi, a member of the Coordination Framework, explained to Al-Maalomah that “talk of disagreements among political forces regarding the Ministries of Interior and Defense is inaccurate. Rather, there is obstruction stemming from external interference in the candidate selection process.”
He continued, “Some external parties are attempting to push for the appointment of figures who align with their agendas at the expense of Iraq’s national interest.”
He added that “the continued management of the two ministries by acting ministers for an extended period negatively impacts security performance and weakens the speed of decision-making within military and security institutions.” He emphasized that “finalizing the ministerial appointments, particularly for Defense and Interior, is essential for strengthening security and institutional stability in the country.”
