(Baghdad: Al Furat News) Representative Alia Nassif said that the government is moving to sell power stations to investment companies.
Nassif warned in a statement that the Al Furat News Agency received a copy of it “from the Ministry of Electricity’s directives to own the Rumaila and Shatt al-Basra stations and the simple cycle to the Car Company,” stressing that “this sale is invalid, especially since the House of Representatives is heading to cancel the clause of selling state assets.”
She added, “There is a government tendency to sell the Rumaila, Shatt al-Basra, and simple cycle power stations to the Car Company, after evaluating their prices by international companies in exchange for the company building a generating station for the value of those stations.”
Nassif indicated, “This process means that the CAR company will obtain a new investment of 2000 megawatts to be added to its total investment, and this approach does not propose building stations instead of them with the same capacities but at their price, and according to the global assessment that the Ministry of Electricity is talking about, the prices of stations are falling. The statute of limitations is 10 percent of its real price annually, and these stations have been in operation for seven years. Therefore, CAR is the sole winner and beneficiary of the ownership process. ”
She stressed that “no party may sell state assets except with the approval of the people’s representatives, adding that” this sale is invalid, especially as the House of Representatives tends to abolish the clause of selling state assets, asking the Prime Minister and the Minister of Electricity to instruct the immediate cancellation of this process.
