Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum announced on Tuesday that they have begun supplying natural gas from the Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan Region to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, under an agreement aimed at supporting electricity production in the country.
The two companies said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the agreement, signed with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity last December, stipulates the supply of 100 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Khor Mor facility to the Taza gas station in Kirkuk Governorate, for an initial period of one year.
The statement added that the start of the supply comes after the completion of the “Khormore 250” expansion project, which entered service in October 2025, and raised the production capacity of the Khormore facility by 50% to reach 750 million standard cubic feet per day, which made it possible to provide additional quantities of gas to local markets via the pipeline network.
Majid Hamid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of Dana Gas, said that the first gas supply to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity represents an important milestone in the development of the gas sector in the Kurdistan Region, and contributes to meeting the growing demand for electricity and improving services provided to citizens.
For his part, Dana Gas CEO Richard Hall considered the agreement an important step reflecting the results of the production expansion program, stressing that it opens the door to further cooperation in the energy sector within Iraq, which enhances energy security and supports the stability of electricity supplies.
The statement indicated that the Khor Mor gas project provides the fuel needed to produce more than 80% of the electricity in the Kurdistan Region, supplying more than 8 million beneficiaries with electricity in the region and other Iraqi governorates, while investments in the project have exceeded $4 billion so far.
