The political arena in Iraq is heading towards a crucial stage related to completing the ministerial cabinet of Ali al-Zaidi’s government, amidst rapid activity within the forces of the Coordination Framework aimed at resolving outstanding issues before the resumption of the Iraqi Parliament sessions after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
This development comes amid political pressure to end the delay in completing the government formation, ensuring that ministries can operate at full capacity in the coming period, especially in service, security and economic matters. Coordination Framework member Uday Abdul Hadi confirmed today, Friday (May 22, 2026), that the Framework forces agreed to pass the remaining ministerial portfolios for Ali al-Zidi’s government in one session within the House of Representatives after the Eid al-Adha holiday, with the possibility of making changes to some of the proposed names, especially in the security portfolios.
Abdul-Hadi stated that “the coordination framework held a series of meetings in its last session that contributed to resolving a number of problems, leading to agreements on the remaining ministerial portfolios,” indicating that “the most prominent thing that was agreed upon is to resolve the remaining portfolios in one session in Parliament after the Eid al-Adha holiday without delay.”
He added that “proceeding in this direction is to ensure the government’s ability to perform its duties,” noting that “changing some of the names of candidates for the remaining portfolios, especially security ones, is very likely, but the alternative names have not yet been determined.”
He noted that “the meetings that took place during the past 72 hours contributed to resolving many issues, and there is a great convergence between the parties,” expecting that “the ministerial cabinet of the Al-Zidi government will be fully completed within 48 to 72 hours after the end of the Eid al-Adha holiday.”
This move comes at a time when the Iraqi political scene is witnessing increasing pressure to finalize the formation of the government and complete the cabinet, after periods of disagreement between political forces over the distribution of portfolios, especially security portfolios.
These developments also coincide with parliamentary and popular demands to expedite the formation of the government in order to ensure the stability of executive performance, in light of accumulated economic and service challenges that require a fully empowered government to implement its programs.
