Completion of the first section of the Development Road project

The Ministry of Transport announced the completion of the first section of the Development Road project in Basra Governorate, coinciding with the registration of more than a thousand international transport trips under the TIR system during March. These two indicators reflect the increasing pace of work in the transport sector and the strengthening of international trade connectivity. The Director of the Ministry’s Media Office, Maitham Al-Safi, told Al-Sabah newspaper that the completion of this section represents an important step within the plan to develop the transport system and connect ports with land border crossings, thus enhancing the movement of goods and trade exchange. He pointed out that the Development Road project aims to establish an economic corridor linking the Grand Faw Port to the Iraqi-Turkish border, extending to Fishkhabur, to transform Iraq into a logistics hub between Asia and Europe. In the same context, the Director General of the General Company for Land Transport, Murtadha Karim Al-Shahmani, confirmed the registration of more than a thousand TIR trips, considering this an indicator of growing confidence in the Iraqi corridor and the development of the organizational structures for international transport.
