Communications Ministry plans to bring fiber optic internet to 8 million homes in IraqShafaq News – Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Communications revealed on Sunday that the fiber optic internet service did not reach more than 8 million homes under the previous plan, noting that this problem will be solved based on the results of the population census .

Undersecretary of the Ministry, Baraq Abdul Qadir, told Shafaq News Agency, “The Ministry of Communications has connected the fiber optic cable to 4 million homes, and after the recent population census, we discovered that we need a larger expansion process, as there are more than 8 million homes in all Iraqi governorates that were not included in the previous plan .”

According to the spokesperson, the Ministry of Communications has worked to deliver fiber optic internet service to government schools free of charge, and that more than 2,500 schools in Baghdad and the provinces have activated the free internet service, and more schools will be included in the coming period .

Communications Minister Hayam Al-Yasiri revealed earlier this month that free internet service has been provided to schools in Baghdad and other governorates, indicating that the internet will remain available until the end of official working hours in these schools .

The fiber optic cable project aims to deliver the internet to all homes and government institutions in Iraq, under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications .
