The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Sunday that its forces disabled a commercial cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman on October 10, after the ship’s crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to breach the naval blockade currently imposed on Iran.
The command explained in a statement that a US fighter jet targeted the stern of the “Ocean Molica,” also known as the “Arica Sun,” which flies the Panamanian flag, with precision-guided munitions, which disabled the ship’s propulsion system completely without harming the crew.
According to the statement, the large cargo ship was attempting to cross territorial waters after having left an Iranian port earlier.
US Central Command forces resumed enforcing the blockade on all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports on July 14. Four commercial vessels were disabled and 135 others were forced to change course and turn back during the three months of strict enforcement of the blockade.
During the same period, US forces destroyed 10 tankers linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s secret network, worth billions of dollars.
