Former MP Yasser Al-Husseini confirmed on Saturday that there are many accumulated corruption files in ministries and government institutions that have caused the waste of trillions of dollars from the state treasury and the people’s money.
Al-Husseini told Al-Maalouma that “corruption in the Ministry of Industry is very serious, especially with regard to the mineral resources file,” explaining that “Iraq possesses mineral resources estimated to be worth about 15 trillion dollars, representing the wealth of future generations.”
He added that “the mineral reserves are estimated at about 22 billion tons, including more than 300 types of minerals, but a number of them were granted to non-specialized companies at very low prices that are almost zero.”
He pointed to “the existence of corruption files in the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control affiliated with the Ministry of Planning, describing them as (very serious), because they relate to materials and goods entering the Iraqi market, which are used by the citizen, which may cause great damage if they are of poor quality.”
Al-Husseini added that “the joint operation files in the Ministry of Transport are notorious, surrounded by major corruption suspicions,” explaining that they “deprived the state of important revenues and handed them over to the corrupt figures entrenched in the ministry.”
He pointed to “the existence of files in the Ministry of Trade, particularly concerning the recent licenses granted for the operation and installation of new mills outside of official and legal frameworks,” as well as “manipulation in the receipt of local wheat,” noting that “quantities of imported wheat are being entered into warehouses as if they were local, which is straining the state budget.”
