An informed source reported that Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Fatah Alliance, refused to meet with Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Taqaddum Party, due to the latter’s stance on the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki for the premiership.
The source told the Information Agency, “Hadi al-Amiri, head of the Fatah Alliance, refused to meet with Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Taqaddum Party, today, Thursday, because of his opposition to the nomination of Nouri al-Maliki, the Coordination Framework’s candidate, for prime minister.”
The source added, “This refusal stems from al-Halbousi’s unconvincing reasons for rejecting Nouri al-Maliki. It appears his rejection aims to achieve political gains, including allocating a share of sovereign and governmental positions to the Taqaddum Party and exploiting the presence of its members in parliament to prevent al-Maliki’s nomination from being approved until these gains are secured.”
The source confirmed that “this exploitation and the lack of any convincing justification for rejecting the Framework’s candidate has angered al-Amiri and some of the alliance’s leaders, prompting the head of the Fatah Alliance to refuse to meet with al-Halbousi for obstructing the formation of the government as quickly as possible.”
