Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani said on Tuesday that the Kurdistan region was subjected to an “unjustified” attack last night by an Iranian drone, which resulted in the death of civilians from the village of Zarkazwi in Erbil province.
Barzani added in a statement, received by Shafaq News Agency, that “the Kurdistan Region was once again subjected to an unjustified attack, and unfortunately this resulted in the martyrdom of innocent citizens from the village of Zarkazwi in Erbil Governorate due to an Iranian drone,” describing the incident as “the ultimate degree of criminality and injustice.”
He continued, “Targeting innocent Kurdish citizens in this way and without any justification is the result of blind hatred,” stressing that “the martyrdom of these two innocent citizens has filled all our hearts with pain and sorrow.”
Barzani offered his condolences to the families of the two martyrs, adding that targeting civilians in the Kurdistan Region is neither honorable nor a source of pride.
He stressed that “the will of the people of Kurdistan is stronger than all attacks, assaults, and drones, and will never be broken,” noting that “the people of Kurdistan rely on God and are based on the justice of their cause.”
The Ministry of Peshmerga had announced in a previous statement that “armed groups targeted one of the Peshmerga forces headquarters within the borders of the Raparin administration with two booby-trapped drones,” while it indicated that “the house of a member of the Peshmerga forces in Erbil was targeted by three drones launched from Iranian territory, which led to his death and that of his wife.”
A local source reported on Monday night that a drone attack occurred in the area of Juwar Qurna, which belongs to the district of Ranya within the Raparin administration, without providing details at the time about the extent of the losses.
