A responsible source in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, northern Iraq, revealed today, Sunday, that Masoud Barzani issued a secret decision to freeze the region’s Integrity Commission after it uncovered corruption files against senior officials in Barzani’s party.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “Masoud Barzani issued, without public announcement, a secret order freezing the Integrity Commission in the region and halting its activities after it uncovered corruption files against senior officials in Barzani’s government, and threatened deterrent penalties, including imprisonment, according to legal articles on malicious charges.”
The source added that “the freezing of the Integrity Commission and all oversight committees by the Barzani government comes after the revelation that the electricity privatization file was assigned to Masrour Barzani and that his company’s profits amount to more than 90 billion dinars per month in one of the most important corruption projects in the region in more than 20 years, in addition to other corruption files.”
He asserted that “the suspension of the integrity committees’ work in the region came after Barzani sensed a threat to the ruling family’s interests and the exposure of hidden aspects of how the region’s affairs are managed.”
