Massoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, met with National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji, who is visiting Erbil.
A statement by Al-Araji’s office stated that the general conditions on the national arena, the current challenges and unification of positions between the center and the region were discussed, as well as efforts to reform and resolve the outstanding issues between the two parties.

Al-Araji confirmed that his visit to the region at the head of a high-ranking security delegation came under the direction of the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to resolve the outstanding issues in accordance with the constitution and the requirements of the supreme interest of the country, and gradually according to the principle of frankness and realism.

For his part, Massoud Barzani affirmed that he “is very encouraged by this visit, which is a road map based on the constitution and trust, indicating that without mutual trust, we cannot build anything even with the existence of the constitution.”

The meeting also witnessed a discussion of strengthening joint cooperation between the center and the region, especially with regard to security coordination, confronting terrorism and the issue of the displaced.

Al-Araji had met with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, earlier today, Sunday, and they discussed security issues, including the protection of representatives of countries and their diplomatic missions in Iraq.

The two sides also discussed, according to a statement by the region’s presidency, the threats and movements of ISIS and confronting them, especially in the areas covered by Article 140 of the constitution, and the tasks of the international coalition against ISIS in Iraq.
