Tom Barrack, the envoy of US President Donald Trump, congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on Thursday evening for securing parliamentary confidence and the approval of his government by the House of Representatives, expressing his hope for bold action in line with the common interests of Washington and Baghdad.
Barak said in a post on the X platform: “We are encouraged by your new leadership and look forward to cooperating on a bold agenda that aligns with our shared interests of building a sovereign, prosperous, and stable Iraq, at peace with its neighbors, providing opportunities and growth for all its citizens in a mutually beneficial partnership with the United States.”
He added: “President Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the United States as a whole stand ready to work closely with you and your government to advance our shared goals of prosperity for the Iraqi people and the elimination of terrorism, which has always been an obstacle to the progress of the people.”
On Thursday afternoon, the parliament voted to grant confidence to the government of Ali Faleh al-Zidi and its ministerial program, voting on 14 ministers, while postponing the vote on 9 ministries, including higher education and interior, due to objections to the candidates.
