The four Iraqi presidencies are expected to hold an expanded meeting this Wednesday evening to discuss several important issues concerning the political, security, legal and economic situation in the country.

An informed source told Shafaq News Agency that the meeting, which will include President Nizar Amidi, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, Speaker of Parliament Hebat al-Halbousi, and Chief Justice Faiq Zaidan, will review the legal and constitutional frameworks to support the stability of state institutions, especially as dialogues continue to complete the vote on the cabinet.

The Iraqi parliament voted on May 14 to grant confidence to the government of Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and its ministerial program with 14 ministers, while the vote on the remaining 9 ministries was postponed until after the Eid al-Adha holiday due to the continuation of political disputes over the distribution of portfolios, amid reports of international warnings against the inclusion of armed factions in the new ministerial formation.

The source added that another issue that the presidents will discuss is the security tensions in the region, in addition to measures to restrict the weapons of Iraqi factions to the state from both a security and legal standpoint. He pointed out that the last issue that will be discussed during the meeting is maximizing financial revenues, reducing government expenditures, and carrying out economic reform in the country in light of the current crisis resulting from the sharp decline in oil exports due to the disruptions to energy supply chains in the Strait of Hormuz.

This position coincides with the recent authorization by the Coordination Framework, which includes Shiite political forces, of Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali al-Zubaidi to take decisions and measures to preserve the country’s higher interests, while simultaneously announcing its support for the project to restrict weapons to the state and to separate the Popular Mobilization Forces from all political, partisan, and social frameworks.
