The Azm Alliance affirmed on Thursday its full commitment to its electoral and political entitlement to the Ministries of Planning and Culture, emphasizing that these entitlements reflect the will of its supporters and the voters who supported it in the recent parliamentary elections.
Alliance leader Mohammed al-Fahdawi stated that “obtaining the Ministry of Culture represents a political and moral obligation on the part of other political blocs towards the Azm Alliance,” explaining that “mutual trust is the foundation upon which current political action in the country rests.”
He added that “the Alliance will not relinquish this entitlement under any circumstances or pressures exerted by certain parties,” noting that “there are clear and prior understandings and agreements regarding these portfolios with partners in the various political blocs.” He also indicated that “the names of the nominees for the Ministries of Planning and Culture have been sent to Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zubaidi.”
An informed political source reported yesterday, Wednesday, that there is a move to withdraw one of the two ministerial portfolios held by the Al-Azm Alliance—the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Culture—following the arrest of its leader, Muthanna al-Samarrai, on charges of financial corruption.
