As August draws to a close, the salaries of employees in a number of Iraqi ministries and government agencies have still not been disbursed, amid a state of anxiety and confusion among employees, especially with the approach of September and the continuation of their financial and living obligations.
Reports indicate that salaries have been disbursed to some entities, including the Ministry of Interior, as well as companies and departments affiliated with some ministries, while employees of major ministries, including Higher Education and Scientific Research, Education, Electricity, Health, and others, are still waiting to receive their salaries for the month of August, which is nearing its end today, Monday.
The Ministry of Finance announced on August 26 that it had begun funding the salaries of state employees for the month of August, stressing that the funding and disbursement process is carried out gradually according to the government agencies.
This comes at a time when the government and the Ministry of Finance are confirming that employees’ salaries are secured, and there is no intention to delay their disbursement or distribute them every 45 days.
Finance Minister Faleh al-Sari said that the monthly cost of salaries amounts to about 7.7 trillion dinars, stressing that it is fully secured.
However, the reality for a number of employees remains different, as large groups are still waiting for their salaries to reach their accounts at the end of August, which increases the financial pressure on families with fixed monthly obligations, including rents, installments, bills and living expenses.
The delay in payment puts employees in a state of uncertainty, especially since the salary date represents, for many of them, the main source to cover their monthly needs, at a time when the country has witnessed warnings and reports in recent weeks about liquidity pressures and their impact on the regularity of government payments.
