Asaib Ahl al-Haq begins severing ties with the Popular Mobilization Forces and forms a committee to inventory weaponsShafaq News – Baghdad
On Tuesday, Asaib Ahl al-Haq announced the formation of a central committee to begin implementing procedures for disengaging from the Popular Mobilization Forces, in a move that it said comes “in line with the call of the religious authority and the decision of the coordination framework, and in confirmation of the direction announced by the Secretary-General of the movement, Qais al-Khazali, regarding restricting weapons to the state.”

The movement indicated, in a document received by Shafaq News Agency, that “the committee will be headed by Jawad al-Talibawi and will include Rafid Saleh Ali (Hajj Mufid), Abdullah Shaker Kamel (Hajj Abu Thafir), and Ali Hamza Kazem (Hajj Abu Baqir al-Jubouri), to undertake the completion of all requirements and procedures related to the implementation of the decision.”

She added that “the committee’s tasks include inventorying all personnel, weapons, vehicles and logistical supplies, as well as organizing mechanisms for communication with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in accordance with the requirements of the state and its security institutions.”

On Monday evening, the Coordination Framework authorized Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali al-Zaidi to take decisions and measures “that would preserve the country’s higher interests,” while announcing its support for the project to restrict weapons to the state and to separate the Popular Mobilization Forces from political, partisan, and social frameworks.

The framework’s position comes days after the leader of the Shiite national movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced the disassociation from the “Peace Brigades” and their integration into the state, a move that was welcomed by the newly formed Iraqi government headed by al-Zaidi.
