Applying Tariff law necessary to revive national industry, says MP
Baghdad (AIN) -MP, Abdul Hussein Resan, the member of the parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee revealed that “The traders are the only beneficiaries by neglecting applying the Tariff Law in Iraq,” clarifying that “All goods and materials are imported from bad origins.
Resan added “Iraq, in recognition of all its governmental departments, follows a dumping policy in importing very poor goods.”
“We aim through applying the Customs Tariff Law to build a new industrial structures especially through the Ministry of industry.”
Iraq imposed customs duties on the imported goods before 2003 according to (Law. No. 77) of 1955, however, after 3003, the Civil Ruler of Iraq, Paul Bremer, issued customs at cost 5% of the materials value.
It is mentioned that the Ministry of Finance announced in 2011, suspending applying the tariff law till 2012 because of lack of the work mechanism needed for applying this law.
Iraq imports the vast majority of its goods from around the world in light of declining national industry.
