Official data issued by the Iraqi Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority showed a decline in the annual inflation rate for last May to 3%, after it had recorded 4.3% in April of this year.
Commenting on this data, the head of the “Iraq Future” Foundation for Economic Research and Consulting, expert Manar Al-Obaidi, explained that this decrease is mainly due to the decline in prices of food commodities, vegetables, and fuel, despite a relative increase in the prices of dairy products, eggs, meat, and fish.
The platform’s interactive dashboard on inflation in Iraq pointed to detailed price movements and monthly and annual comparisons that support these latest readings.
Table of inflation indicators in Iraq (May 2026):
The annual inflation rate for May: 3% (a notable decline representing a slowdown in the pace of price increases).
April’s annual inflation rate: 4.3% (previous reading).
Commodities causing a decline: Food, vegetables, and fuel (continued decline).
Goods that maintain a high price: dairy products, eggs, meat, and fish (relatively high).
