Angering Baghdad - Israel reveals details of secret operations in IraqShafaq News – Translation
The Hebrew newspaper ” Jerusalem Post ” revealed on Sunday new and different details regarding secret operations carried out by the Israeli army inside Iraq, which included the deployment of special units during military operations alongside the United States against Iran.

The newspaper reported, in a report translated by Shafaq News Agency, that special rescue units belonging to the Israeli army were secretly deployed inside Iraqi territory, with the aim of rapid intervention to rescue any Israeli pilot who might be forced to land or whose plane might be shot down while carrying out military missions against Iran.

The newspaper confirmed, according to the report, that it had prior knowledge of the presence of a “small Israeli force on the ground” inside Iraq, but refrained from publishing the information at the time for reasons related to military censorship.

She explained that these details came to light following reports published by the Wall Street Journal, and the subsequent anger within the Iraqi government in Baghdad after the information was leaked.

The Jerusalem Post report concluded that this was not the first time Israel had operated inside Iraqi territory, noting that “Israel has sometimes allowed the army to launch limited attacks on Iranian forces that were trying to use Iraqi territory to position themselves to be able to launch an arsenal of missiles against Tel Aviv.”

Earlier today, the Hebrew newspaper Maariv revealed details of what it called “Israel’s secret base in the Iraqi desert,” noting that it included a formation of “commando” units and assigned them various tasks.

According to a report by the Hebrew newspaper, discussing al-Qaeda’s activities in Israeli media was prohibited under military censorship orders, but the censorship body allowed publication after a report published by the Wall Street Journal about al-Qaeda.

According to the Hebrew newspaper, the Israeli army equipped the base with medical units concerned with responding urgently to save lives, including a formation to perform advanced surgical operations, in the event that Israeli pilots or fighters are injured and require complex emergency treatment.

The Israeli Air Force’s Seventh Wing, which is responsible for coordinating the Air Force’s commando and special forces units, deployed the majority of the ground forces at the base.

As the base’s mission neared its end, the newspaper revealed a serious security incident that miraculously ended without injuries, with damage limited to two helicopters belonging to the Israeli Air Force.

Maariv explained that the incident occurred during the takeoff of one of the helicopters to transport troops, as the pilot faced extreme difficulty in visibility due to a sandstorm, so he tried to land the helicopter, but as a result of human error caused by poor visibility, the helicopter flipped onto its side and collided with the other helicopter.

According to the newspaper, none of the fighters or crew members were injured, while the helicopter that overturned sustained significant damage. The second helicopter was also damaged, but Israeli Air Force maintenance crews immediately repaired it.

On the same day, the helicopter, which had overturned and was badly damaged, was evacuated from the area and transported to the Tel Nof base in Israel for rehabilitation.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that Israel had established a secret military site in the Iraqi desert to support its war against Iran on February 28, 2026, noting at the same time that Israel had launched raids on Iraqi forces that approached it at the time.
