A source in Anbar province confirmed on Friday the discovery of manipulation and theft of huge sums of money from the revenues of the three border crossings of Trebil, Arar, and Al-Qaim in western Anbar.
The source told Al-Maalomah News Agency that “the central government allocated huge sums of money to the Anbar treasury from the revenues of the Trebil crossing with Jordan, the Arar crossing with Saudi Arabia, and the Al-Qaim crossing with Syria, but these funds quickly disappeared and their fate remains unknown under the rule of the Progress Party, headed by Mohammed al-Halbousi.”
The source added that “the province’s share of the profits from each border crossing, as approved by the central government, is 50% and deposited into the Anbar Governorate treasury. Information available to us indicates that the Taqaddum Party has seized enormous sums of money, estimated at billions of dinars. No investigations have been conducted into the disappearance of the border crossing revenues and profits, which were deposited in banks for the benefit of Halbousi and his associates.” The source emphasized that “opening the corruption investigation into the revenues from the western Anbar border crossings will bring down prominent figures in the Taqaddum Party.”
He also noted that “most of the infrastructure damaged by terrorist operations has been rebuilt by humanitarian organizations.”
