Oil expert Hamza al-Jawahiri called on the government Thursday to focus on establishing large oil storage facilities in “guaranteed” consumer countries like China and India, instead of wasting funds on new export pipeline projects.
Al-Jawahiri told the Information Agency that “oil pipeline projects are always hostage to the political fluctuations of the countries they pass through, giving those countries control over Iraqi exports.” He explained that “building huge storage facilities within consuming countries will protect the oil decision and save the public treasury significant sums that were previously spent on transit fees or maintenance costs.”
He added that “the global energy market is indicating positive stability, with oil prices expected to remain at good levels in international markets for an extended period, even in the event of a complete breakthrough and an end to the tensions between Washington and Tehran.”
