An official decision to postpone the amounts owed by farmers to the next year{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, announced, on Thursday, that the sums owed by farmers will be postponed until next year, and the farmers will be exempted from the debts owed by the Agricultural Supplies Company for the agricultural season (2020-2021).

He also praised “the achievements made by the ministry in the field of continuing support, whether for 70% of seeds and 50% for fertilizers,” directing his thanks and appreciation to “the Council of Ministers and Representatives for their support to the ministry’s requests regarding support for the agricultural sector.”
Al-Khafaji expressed his hope that farmers ’dues would be distributed as soon as possible in order to encourage them to continue increasing agricultural production in terms of quantity and quality.
Al-Khafaji also presented, according to the statement, a summary of the visit he made to a number of European countries with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi last October to discuss ways to strengthen and develop agricultural cooperation.
The statement added, “The paragraphs of the meeting schedule were discussed, including the approval of the draft memorandum of understanding in the agricultural field, both plant and animal, with the republics (Poland, Tunisia, Ukraine) in order to develop and encourage scientific and economic cooperation to serve this vital sector.”
He added, “It was voted to support feed barley for breeders at subsidized prices by the Ministry of Agriculture, to approve the transfer of barley from Nineveh Governorate to the southern governorates, to provide fodder materials for livestock and fish breeders, and to emphasize increasing support for seed producers and providing them with modern agricultural mechanization.”
The statement continued, “It was also voted to exempt farmers from the debts owed by the Agricultural Supplies Company for the agricultural season (2020-2021), to provide them with subsidized seeds and fertilizers, and to allow the private sector to import dab and urea fertilizer through the Agricultural Supplies Company according to the direct sales mechanism.”
He pointed out, “The approval of allocating the necessary sums to the Department of Forestry and Desertification in order to be able to support forest activity and continue to work, and to approve allocating the amounts of fodder purchase to the animals of the Sawa Nature Reserve and other reserves, while the Opinion Commission agreed to provide the farmers and farmers with palm seedlings from the Department of Horticulture at nominal prices for their cultivation and increase.” The numbers of date palms and the permission and inclusion of the holders of agricultural law (35) contracts to plant 10% of its area with these shoots to preserve this economic wealth of Iraqi dates.
