Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with Saudi Arabia to establish the largest industrial complex for silica projects in Anbar Governorate.
The ministry said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “The Minister of Industry and Minerals, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, sponsored today, Tuesday, the signing of a historic cooperation agreement between the General Company for Glass and Refractories and the Saudi Ajial Company, to establish the largest integrated joint industrial complex that relies on silica as a basic raw material in the implementation of many future industrial projects that include (flat glass, bottles and jars, ceramic sanitary ware, floor and wall ceramics, glass electrical insulators, sodium silicate) and other projects.”
She explained that “this agreement represents an important step towards strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of industry, and will have a significant positive impact on the strong economic relations that bind them. The industrial complex will enable the use of silica as a key component in the manufacture of a range of advanced industrial products. It will also contribute to strengthening the national economy and increasing industrial production, in a step towards building a solid industrial base that contributes to providing job opportunities and enhancing economic sustainability.”
According to the statement, the Iraqi minister affirmed that “this project falls within the Ministry of Industry’s vision to enhance Iraq’s industrial capacity,” noting that “this agreement represents a major turning point in industrial cooperation between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and that it will be a step toward diversifying sources of income and developing national industries by utilizing local raw materials.”
The ministry noted in its statement that “the project is expected to contribute to a qualitative shift in the industrial sector in Iraq and constitute a strong pillar for sustainable economic development between the two countries.”
