Economic expert Dr. Safwan Qusay explained Iraq’s alternatives to compensate for the shortfall in oil exports resulting from the security tensions in the region caused by US military movements and escalation at sea.
Qusay told Al-Maalouma, “There are governmental efforts to increase oil exports via tankers, as well as fuel oil and naphtha, in addition to utilizing other tankers from the region and other Iraqi trucks that are being modified for export purposes.”
He added, “Iraq has 20,000 trucks belonging to the private sector that could contribute to sustaining Iraq’s oil exports, in the hope that the conflict in the region will not continue into the next month.”
He indicated that “Iraq is looking forward to the continued rise in oil prices, even if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, in order to compensate for the revenue shortfall during the period of war that the region witnessed.”
