Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi affirmed on Wednesday that Iraq needs a “revolution” of laws and legislation, including those pertaining to the Popular Mobilization Forces and the Development Fund, while calling for enhanced cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.
The media office of Al-Zaydi stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that the latter received the head of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Ribwar Hadi Abdul Rahman, and its members. During the meeting, a number of files, legislations, and laws related to the work of the executive and legislative authorities were discussed, and the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between them was emphasized, in order to contribute to accelerating the completion of legislation that affects the interests of citizens and supports the work of state institutions.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing the legislative system in line with the requirements of development, stimulating the economy, strengthening the rule of law, and consolidating state institutions, emphasizing the need to adopt constitutional and legal frameworks in addressing national issues and files.
He pointed to the need for a revolution in laws and legislation, stressing the existence of files and draft laws that require approval, including the Popular Mobilization Forces Law, the Development Fund Law, and a package of other draft laws.
For their part, the Chairman and members of the Legal Committee affirmed their support for the government’s reform steps in legal aspects, combating corruption, implementing the government program, and proceeding with its economic and development policies. They renewed their commitment to continuing legislative work in a way that serves the interests of the citizen and enhances stability and development.
