The new President of the Republic, Nizar Amidi, officially assumed his duties as President of the Republic of Iraq on Sunday, during a presidential ceremony held at the Baghdad Palace.
The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthem, followed by a review of the guard of honor, before the new president received his predecessor, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, where the handover ceremony took place.
Amidi praised the efforts made by the former president during his time in office, appreciating his role in serving Iraq, and stressing that the peaceful transfer of power is a fundamental pillar in consolidating the foundations of democracy and strengthening the stability of the state.
For his part, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid expressed his wishes for “success and good fortune to the new president in carrying out his national duties,” in a way that serves the interests of Iraq and meets the aspirations of its people.
The Iraqi parliament elected, on Saturday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party candidate Nizar Amidi as the new president of the republic.
