All eyes are on the meetings of the Coordination Framework to learn the outcomes of these negotiations between the political parties within the same bloc, especially as ambiguity still prevails regarding the vacant ministerial portfolios in Ali al-Zaidi’s cabinet. No final candidates have been announced, and the political blocs have yet to announce new nominees after their initial candidates were rejected. Furthermore, they have not yet clarified whether they are submitting the same candidates or replacing them with others.
Imran Karkoush, a member of the State of Law Coalition, told Al-Maalouma, “The State of Law Coalition has not yet announced any replacement of its cabinet nominees, despite their failure to secure a vote in the first parliamentary session.”
He added, “The names are still on the table, and there is a need for greater transparency in the discussions among the political parties within the Coordination Framework to ascertain the political positions, as well as the judiciary’s opinion and stance on the first parliamentary session for the vote on the government.”
He stated that “there is an urgent need to convene an emergency session of Parliament to finalize the cabinet formation and complete the vote on the remaining ministerial portfolios in al-Zidi’s cabinet without delay.”
Meanwhile, Salam al-Zubaidi, a leader in the Victory Coalition, told Al-Maalomah that “the government has held extensive consultations with political forces to expedite an extraordinary session to vote on the remaining cabinet positions,” noting that “this session will be held immediately after the parliamentary recess ends.”
He added that “the State of Law Coalition intends to present an alternative candidate alongside the previous nominee, Qasim Atta, to allow the Prime Minister the freedom to choose between the two,” while also revealing “political disagreements regarding the names nominated by the Sadiqun bloc for its ministerial quota.”
In a related development, Member of Parliament Ibtisam al-Hilali explained to Al-Maalomah that “the recent meeting of the Coordination Framework, held in the presence of Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi, witnessed a firm emphasis from the attendees on the necessity of completing the vote on the remaining vacant ministerial posts in the coming period.”
She pointed out that “there is parliamentary and political insistence on finalizing the cabinet to ensure the full implementation of the government program with all its powers and executive efforts.”
It is worth noting that the Iraqi Parliament is currently enjoying its first legislative recess, and it is expected that the issue of voting on the vacant ministries will be at the top of the agenda for the first sessions after the resumption of the new legislative term.
