On Monday, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi discussed with Total Energies the expansion of oil and gas production in Iraq.

Al-Zaidi’s media office said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “Al-Zaidi received, at his residence in the French capital Paris, the head of Total Energies, Patrick Pouyanné.”

He added: “During the meeting, the strategic projects implemented by the company in Iraq, particularly in the gas sector, were reviewed. In this regard, Al-Zaidy pointed to the government’s plans to expand associated gas investment to achieve self-sufficiency, as well as plans to increase oil production over the next five years, enabling Iraq to reach a production level of 10 million barrels per day.”

According to the statement, Al-Zaydi pointed to the commencement of expanding oil exploration in Iraq, which will enhance the growth of the national economy and support development plans, noting that preparations are underway to hold an international energy conference in Baghdad.

For his part, Boigny affirmed the company’s readiness to cooperate with Iraq in the fields of oil and energy, noting that the company has significant oil investments in Iraq amounting to $12 billion, with plans to increase them to $16 billion in the future.
