Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi affirmed on Friday that the Iraq is seeking permanent investments and partnerships, not just contracts for implementation.
This came during Al-Zaydi’s speech at a business conference held by the American Chamber of Commerce, which was attended by a large number of businessmen and traders, representatives of American companies, bankers, representatives of financing institutions and investment companies, and various industrial and technological sectors.
In his speech, which was published by his media office, he emphasized “interest in communication, dialogue and cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce, as it represents the place where economic decisions are made.”
He reiterated his keenness to “present the great opportunities for investment and economic cooperation that are available today in the Iraqi arena, at various levels and in different fields,” explaining that “the Iraqi economy today is looking for partners in development and modernization, not just contractors for implementation or supply.”
He pointed to “the government’s work on transforming Iraq’s natural and mineral wealth into jobs that promote prosperity and support economic growth rates.”
Al-Zaydi also pointed out, according to a correspondent for Shafaq News Agency who attended the conference, that “in the past we used to say that the strong eat the weak, but today economic logic says that the fast eat the slow,” calling on investment companies to seize the opportunities currently available before the investment map changes in the future.
In the context of government facilitations, the Prime Minister announced Iraq’s adoption of an “open door policy” to remove all obstacles for investors, stressing the opening of direct communication channels with everyone who has a real investment project.
On Friday, the US President’s envoy to Iraq, Tom Barrack, confirmed that Iraq is leading security and strategic alliances in the region by linking the Gulf states, the Levant, Turkey and Egypt together.
In his address to the US-Iraq Business Summit, which was attended by a Shafaq News Agency correspondent, Barak said that “strategies based on diplomacy, intelligence and the military often follow the lead of the business sector,” stressing that companies and business leaders are “the best diplomats” who are leading the way in the fields of energy, electricity and regional interconnection.
He pointed out that Iraq is leading a new security and strategic alliance linking Mesopotamia, the Levant, and the Gulf (Syria, Jordan, Türkiye, Lebanon, and Egypt).
