Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said on Wednesday that there is no need for the “resistance” to remain after the withdrawal of US forces.
In his first media interview since taking office, with Hadley Gamble, IMI’s chief international broadcaster, he added that most armed factions have already begun handing over their weapons to the state, stressing that after the withdrawal of all American forces there will be no justification or need for any resistance in Iraq.
He added that “fighting corruption is a top priority,” noting that he has already begun procedures in every ministry and department to dry up the sources of corruption.
Regarding the relationship with the United States, Al-Zaydi affirmed that “the relationship with America will transform from a military one to an economic partnership,” stressing that Iraq wants OPEC to “allow it to increase its oil production in proportion to Iraq’s oil capabilities and population size.”
