Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi announced on Monday that an official invitation has been extended to international companies specializing in airport management and operation to invest in Mosul International Airport and develop its services.

This came during a visit he is making to the city of Mosul to launch the implementation work on the million residential plots project, and to follow up on service and development projects, most notably Mosul International Airport.

Al-Zaydi pointed out that the city of Mosul represents a cultural showcase for Iraq and an important view of the world, stressing the government’s efforts and hard work to complete vital projects for the province in a way that meets the requirements of its people and their service and economic needs.

The Prime Minister stated that “Mosul Airport is not just a service project, but an important gateway for the province and Iraq in general, especially after the decision to return Nineveh to the aviation and investment map,” stressing that “we do not want the companies that will attend to just build a service hall, but to be an important partner that makes Mosul Airport a strategic service landmark.”

Launch of the residential land initiative

On the field side, Al-Zaydi laid the foundation stone for the largest project to distribute residential plots in Nineveh Governorate, during an official ceremony held in the “Damarji” area (Gate of the Levant) west of Mosul, as part of the major national initiative to distribute one million plots of land to citizens and those entitled to them.

A correspondent for Shafaq News Agency said that the “Damarji” area, located near the Sham Gate checkpoint, witnessed extensive preparations to receive the Prime Minister and the accompanying government delegation, signaling the start of the executive work of the project being carried out by specialized companies to prepare and sort the districts designated for urban distribution.

Al-Zaydi stressed in a speech during the foundation stone laying ceremony that the government’s goal is to ensure that no family in Nineveh is left without a piece of land, in fulfillment of the sacrifices of its people and their heroic stances, indicating the government’s keenness to return all the people of the province to their homes.

Nineveh Governorate’s share of this initiative is the sorting and distribution of 110,000 serviced residential plots, aimed at solving the housing crisis that has accumulated over the years, and including eligible segments of the families of martyrs, the wounded, employees and citizens with regular residential areas.

For its part, government and local sources confirmed to Shafaq News Agency that the launch of this project from the western entrance to Mosul represents a pivotal step to alleviate the population congestion in the city center, and to open up prospects for urban and developmental expansion towards the countryside of Sham by extending infrastructure networks and basic services to the new districts.

Plan to distribute one million farms

Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, also from Nineveh, announced the government’s plan to launch a million-farm project for all of Iraq’s governorates, alongside new residential city projects, to support the national economy and provide job opportunities for young people.

The initiative’s reach in numbers

This comes in conjunction with the Prime Minister laying the foundation stone last Saturday for the project of one million residential plots (Homeland Initiative) in the governorates of Karbala and Najaf.

The National Investment Commission had identified, in mid-September, the city of Karbala as the first starting point for implementing the initiative, while procedures to prepare the lands included in a number of other governorates are continuing.

The “Homeland Initiative” is an extensive governmental and service program aimed at addressing the housing crisis and distributing one million residential plots throughout Iraq. Official estimates indicate that there are between 3 and more than 9 million people living in informal areas, while the Ministry of Planning confirms the existence of about 104,000 completely random housing units that include between 500,000 and 600,000 people, which reveals a housing gap that goes beyond traditional figures and puts the state before a complex developmental test.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office had previously confirmed to Shafaq News Agency that the residential land plots within the “Homeland” initiative would be completely free, and would target all Iraqi families whose members do not own a housing unit or property.
