Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi directed on Saturday the purchase of (47) thousand megawatts of electricity, stressing that 2027 will be the year of doubling the production and distribution of electrical energy.
His office stated in a statement that “Al-Zaydi visited the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity, as part of the effective follow-up on the performance of state service institutions, where he began by chairing an expanded meeting of officials and senior staff in the ministry, in which he stressed the need to redouble efforts, fight corruption, and submit an urgent study on supplying stations of all types available, in a way that ensures a noticeable improvement in the supply of electrical power during the coming summer.”
Al-Zaydi confirmed, according to the statement, that “the coming year, 2027, will be the year of doubling electricity production and doubling distribution and transmission capacity, which represents an important start to changing the reality of electricity in Iraq, and he assures Iraqis that the government’s measures are proceeding to end the delays in the electricity file and stop the waste and corruption that has continued for decades.”

– Purchasing imported energy of no less than 10 megawatts from neighboring countries.
– Purchase of 37,000 megawatts distributed as follows: 15,000 megawatts from GE, 12,000 megawatts from solar energy and 10,000 megawatts thermal.
