Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi affirmed on Saturday that 2027 will be the year of doubling electricity production and doubling distribution and transmission capacity, representing an important launch to change the reality of electricity in Iraq, assuring Iraqis that government measures are continuing to end the sluggishness in the electricity file and stop the waste and corruption that has continued for decades.
This came during a visit by Al-Zaydi to the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity, as part of the follow-up on the performance of state service institutions, where he chaired an expanded meeting of officials and senior staff in the ministry, according to a statement issued by his media office and received by Shafaq News Agency.
During the meeting, Al-Zaydi stressed the need to redouble efforts and combat corruption, and to present an urgent study on supplying the stations of all types available, in order to ensure a noticeable improvement in the supply of electrical power during the coming summer.
According to the statement, Al-Zaydi issued directives to the Minister of Electricity, which included carrying out full maintenance of the 30,000 megawatts currently produced, purchasing imported energy of no less than 10 megawatts from neighboring countries, and purchasing 37,000 megawatts, distributed as follows: 15,000 megawatts from GE, 12,000 megawatts from solar energy, and 10,000 megawatts thermal.
