Member of the Coordination Framework, Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, confirmed on Friday that four names have been put forward as candidates for the Ministries of Interior and Defense, noting that the final selection of candidates will be made through political consensus and a vote in Parliament.
Al-Zarkoushi explained to Al-Maalouma that “the Ministries of Interior and Defense are important sovereign security ministries, and they shape the management of the security file in the country in general.”
He added that “four names have been put forward so far for the two ministries, including three high-ranking officers, and it is not possible at this time to definitively say who will head each ministry, as the matter is subject to political agreement and the presentation of names to Parliament.”
He indicated that “all signs point to the remaining ministerial portfolios in Ali al-Zaidi’s government being finalized in the coming days, given the intensified meetings scheduled for next week.”
He pointed out that “the intensified meetings may pave the way for scheduling a parliamentary session to proceed with presenting and finalizing the names of candidates for the nine remaining ministerial portfolios, particularly the Ministries of Interior and Defense.”
