Abdul Samad al-Zarkoushi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Monday that discussions have begun to finalize the remaining ministerial portfolios in Ali al-Zaidi’s government. He denied reports that the names for the sovereign ministries had been decided.
Al-Zarkoushi explained that “during the past 48 hours, there have been serious discussions and talks among the political forces, particularly the Coordination Framework, to reach a decisive agreement that will ensure a date is set for a session to vote on the candidates for the nine remaining ministerial portfolios in Ali al-Zaidi’s government.”
He added that “so far, there is no comprehensive agreement, pending the completion of the discussions. However, the names currently being circulated as candidates for sovereign ministries, referring to the Ministries of Interior and Defense, are inaccurate.” He clarified that “the discussions have not yet focused on the nature of the names, and the talks are currently centered on the distribution of entitlements among the political forces and blocs.”
He indicated that “this week will be important, but it is not yet possible to set a final date for the voting session, especially since the discussions will gain more momentum in the coming days.”
